Several other drunk driving convictions were handed out in the local courtroom last week -and one woman has been banned from the community for her regular arrests for booze-related crimes. See Tuesday's POST for more.
A Drayton Valley man was in court last Tuesday for an impaired driving offense.
Court heard that on Dec. 7, 2013 Lac La Biche RCMP were conducting a checkstop at Highway 55 and 858. They stopped Colt Clark Seely and noticed the odour of alcohol and open beer cans in the vehicle. The 24-year-old failed a roadside test and was taken to the detachment to provide samples of his breath, the lowest reading 110 mg/mls. Court also heard that he had a similar offense a few years ago. As this was a second offense, Crown prosecutor Nicole Badry sought the minimum offense of a two-year driving ban and 30 days in jail, which Seely would serve on weekends in the Fort Saskatchewan Remand Centre. He would also be on probation until the sentence was served.
Judge Fuller accepted the sentence and told Seely it was a lesson to him to not drink and drive.
“Life’ s a learning experience, some experiences are pretty painful. This is one of them,” he said. “If you’ re back before the court you’ ll have to pack another suitcase because you’ ll be in for another 30 days.”
