Kids' Fishing Derby draws good turnout of young fishers

The event, which has been part of Lac La Biche Summer Days for the past several years, took place at the Alexander Hamilton Park fish pond on Sunday, Aug. 4.

The Kids’ Fishing Derby, which has been part of Lac La Biche Summer Days for the past several years, took place on Aug. 4 at the Alexander Hamilton Park fishpond from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Around 130 children-along with their parents-participated in the event, which involved not only catching fish, but also getting to keep ones that were caught.

Barbequed hot dogs, water, and Freezies were provided by the organizers of the Kids’ Fishing Derby, which for the past few years has been put on the Lac La Biche Muslim Ladies’ Association. In addition to free food and refreshments, participants also received a variety of prizes that were donated by local businesses and individuals.

There were also prizes for the top three winners that included a bike, spikeball set and fishing rod and kit.
