The 52nd annual Pow Wow Days and Fish Derby was as successful as could be, organizers say.

With the cooperation of Mother Nature, the beautiful weather drew in crowds of over 2,000 a day, said Pow Wow Association vice-president Gail Broadbent.

By counting paying patrons, the number of people increased every day of the event from 2,200 on Friday, to 2,300 on Saturday and 2,700 on Sunday, not counting children under 13 who entered the grounds for free. All in all, the weekend was a hit, she said.

Gate admissions generated approximately $14,000 in revenue for the Pow Wow Association.

“It was extraordinary,” Broadbent said, adding that even newer events were well attended.

The Kamel Moghrabi Memorial Strongman Competition, in its second year, and the motorcycle rodeo, put on for the first time, both drew a crowd.

“After the word gets out, first-time events become something to see,” she said.

The directors re ceived a lot of positive feedback about the weekend’ s events such as Running of the Balls and the Kingdom Village, which hosted all the entertainment and provided a place to catch some tunes and some shade. The new additions are something they plan on bringing back next year.

“I can’ t see us axing anything,” Broadbent says.

Although the downtown Lac La Biche Recreation Grounds are all clear of the weekend’ s offerings, there is still a Pow Wow raffle taking place.

Donated by Kingdom Holdings, a quad is still available in an ongoing raffle draw with Pow Wow directors selling the tickets at different community events over the course of the next few months.
