LAC LA BICHE - Residents of the Lac La Biche area who dedicate their time and skills to helping community organizations were recognized with a special volunteer appreciation barbecue on May 4.
The event, which was organized by Lac La Biche FCSS for National Volunteer Week, took place at McArthur Park from 12-3 p.m.
Those who attended the event were able to enjoy hamburgers, salad, and fruit, while listening to the country rock sounds of Plamondon-based band Dusty Road, which is comprised of husband-and-wife duo Valere and Yvonne Plamondon.
Kristen Shewchuk, a community outreach worker with Lac La Biche County FCSS, said volunteers play a huge role in the community.
“Many of our programs and services would not be available without those volunteers,” Shewchuk told Lakeland This Week.
Danielle Kohn was amongst the local volunteers who stopped by McArthur Park for the fun afternoon event. Kohn helps out with some community organizations, including the Kinette Club of Lac La Biche.
For Kohn, who moved to the Lac La Biche area close to a year ago, volunteering provides an opportunity to connect with the community.
“I’m not from Lac La Biche, so it’s nice to get to know everyone in the community,” she stated.
