The Lakeland Interpretive Society will hold their Annual General Meeting (AGM) this Thursday, April 25.
As the society's board members and the museum's staff will gather for the meeting at the Lac La Biche Museum's new Jubilee Hall location, they are hoping for locals to join them too.
The meeting starts at 7pm and it is an opportunity for members of the community to catch up on what has happened during the last year, says Lakeland Interpretive Society's board president Michele McDougall.
"We moved from McArthur Place to the Jubilee Hall, thanks to our ongoing partnership with the Lac La Biche County. We absolutely love our new home. The AGM is also a chance for folks to get a sneak-peek at our new 'digs' and see some of the incredible exhibits and displays we've created. We will preview some events that we will be hosting, and chat about plans for our official grand opening in mid June," she said.
Apart from getting to know what has happened during the transitioning period, locals from the area can also become society members at the meeting and be a part of the preservation of the region's rich history.
"We are unique in this area with so many cultures and so many people who have great stories to share... Lac La Biche has a long and rich history. In fact, this is the second oldest community in Alberta. Anyone who shares our passion for — and has an interest in — history is encouraged to attend the AGM, buy a membership to our society, and help us make our museum one of the best in northern Alberta," McDougall said.
As the board president, McDougall is proud to be able to contribute to the museum and the society, and is hoping for locals to feel the same way by joining the museum staff and the society's board members at the meeting.
"Lac La Biche has stolen my heart. I love being part of a group that appreciates, respects and celebrates the history and culture of this community," said McDougall.
The Interpretive Society is planning a 'soft opening' of the new museum on the May Long Weekend to coincide with the start of the tourist season. The June grand opening will include a ribbon cutting ceremony, songs, stories and dances. The exact date of the grand opening will be announced in the coming weeks.
