The intersection at the Lac La Biche Canada POST office is getting another update that motorists need to be aware of.
New stop signs and lit barricades were installed on Friday afternoon at the intersection of 101 Street and 102 Avenue in Lac La Biche to help reduce confusion about the new two-lane, one-way traffic flow that came into effect a month ago. The one-way street replaces what had always been a two-way street through a busy area of the community.
On Friday, Lac La Biche County crews were busy putting in place a few temporary barricades on the south side of 102 Ave. and the entire intersection of 102 Ave. and 101 Street to remind motorists not to go the wrong way up the community’s new one-way street-and to become more accustomed to it.
The one-way, which takes up a block of 101 Street in front of the Abougouche AG Foods grocery store, is part of the $32.5 million Main Street Revitalization project. It was put in place over the Oct. 28 weekend when work on the second phase of the three-phase project was completed.
According to Ali Memon, Lac La Biche County’s general manager of infrastructure, the new signs and barricades will serve as an additional visual aid and a reminder to residents about the one-way street in the area, and to prevent drivers from entering southbound.
“The barricades will have flashers mounted on top until residents become more used to the one-way,” Memon told Lakeland This Week. “Our hope is that the barricade will help change driver habits to make the one-way more natural to residents.”
Motorists are urged to watch for the new signs and to be considerate as the new traffic flow becomes better known.
