One of the hottest social events in Lac La Biche happened on Nov. 21: the annual Portage College Board of Governors’ Gala.

The invite-only event is intended to honour community members who have contributed to or done important work with the college over the past year, and the event’ s menu shows off the skills of the Portage culinary arts program.

“We basically invited members of our board, as well as current sponsors of the college and people in the community that we work with often - we wanted to appreciate them and give them a nice meal,” said Charimaine Jennings, Portage College’ s event planner.

"All the food is provided by our culinary arts program. That runs out of the St. Paul campus, so they all came here this week to prepare the dessert and the dinner,” Jennings continued. " I think people are going to be really impressed with the presentation of the desserts.”

The lavish dessert offerings included matcha-infused macarons and orchid-topped petits fours.

The night started off with a video speech from board chair Ray Danyluk, who wasn’ t able to attend in person, followed by a speech by board member and Northern Lights School District acting superintendent Roy Ripkens.

Jennings said the event was a major success. "Last year we only had 60 people in attendance and we doubled it this year, which is awesome. [We’ ll] hopefully double it again next year."
