Seasonal signs— Construction and cops

Construction zone and seatbelt tickets can wreck a spring-time drive

Emcon highway maintenance crews and utility company workers were busy along Highway 663 near the Venice turnoff last Thursday with a new power pole installation project. Local traffic was slowed down through the construction area. The local Emcon service area stretches from Cold Lake to Barrhead.

At the same time, Lac La Biche RCMP and community peace officers were slowing down traffic in the Lac La Biche hamlet with a target on seatbelts and distracted driving. Police and peace officers were kept busy along the hamlet’s Main Street with several stops in a short time.

The fine for a seatbelt infraction in Alberta is $162. A distracted driving fine starts at $300. Fines for speeding in a construction zone are double the standard fines — so even at one kilometre over the posted speed, the fines start at $78.
