Get ready for a raucous, rollicking good time as the Lac La Biche Players return to the boards in the McGrane Theatre at Portage College this weekend with their naughty romp “Sex Please, We’ re 60!”
The mischievous and ribald tale of the escapades of a handful of hot-to-trot sexagenarians-which means people in their 60s, but oddly appropriate here-promises fun for-relatively-mature theatre-goers.
“It’ s an adult play-not so much for children. Studs and duds,” said first time Player Charles Hattum, who plays troublemaker Bud.
“It’ s the most racy production we’ ve ever done,” agreed eight-year Player veteran Carmen Cyre, also known as Victoria Ambrose. “But it’ s not so bad. It’ s good for a laugh. I think everyone on the planet will appreciate the play.”
Set in the Rose Cottage Bed and Breakfast recently opened in Lac La Biche, and directed by Anita Polturak and Judi MacCloud-both no strangers to the Lac La Biche Players stage-the play focuses on the randy misunderstandings of the guests, and the hot flashes and Viagra popping that ensues.
“Expect a lot of laughs-bring your tissue,” said Hattum of the tears of laughter audience-members can expect.
The cast, gathered for one of their four-times-weekly rehearsals last Sunday said that character development was a large component of preparing for the play.
“We did lots of practice around character development, lots of character work,” said Bonita Decaire, or Rose Cottage’ s intrepid proprietor Charmaine Beauregard.
Cast members answered questions about their character in order to build a fully fleshed-out persona in their mind-where they were born, favourite holiday spots. In fact, during one rehearsal cast members went method-required to go into full character as soon as they passed the threshold of the theatre doors and stay that way until they left.
The cast has been rehearsing since December, and with only a few days left before opening night, the final details of set construction and technical rehearsals are under way.
Advance tickets are on sale at Shear FX, Value Drug Mart and the La Biche Inn. April 12 and 13 the show starts at 7:30 p.m. with refreshments offered before the curtains open. April 14 is a matinee show at 2 p.m. Two more shows will be offered the following weekend, April 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m.
