LAC LA BICHE - Temporary disruptions are expected at the William J. Cadzow - Lac La Biche Healthcare Centre Emergency Department this month.

Due to the inability to secure physician coverage, three dates may be affected, with the first date already over. From 4 p.m. on Aug. 1, to 8 a.m. on Aug. 2, the emergency department had no physician coverage.

The other two dates listed by Alberta Health Services (AHS) are:

  • 4 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 6 to 8 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 7
  • 4 p.m., Friday, Aug. 9 to 8 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 10

"During this time, nursing staff will remain on-site in the Emergency Department providing triage, assessments, and referrals for patients to alternate Emergency Departments in neighbouring communities, as needed," according to AHS.

"Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. EMS will remain available to the community and will work with the local healthcare centre to ensure residents continue to have access to the emergency services they need," states AHS.

Other services, such as Health Link at 811, and pharmacies for certain services also remain available in the community.

"If coverage is found, this disruption may be cancelled. This is a temporary measure and AHS is working hard to ensure residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time," says AHS.
