A kitchen fire at Tom's Steakhouse that caused crews to block off 101 Ave. just before midnight Aug. 1 did not cause major damage, police have confirmed.
Police say that the fire was caused by a burner left on at the restaurant and was detected by a volunteer firefighter fueling at the adjacent gas station.
"It appears a burner was left on, which ignited grease residue nearby," said Lac La Biche County spokesperson Shadia Amblie. "The overhead extinguishing unit discharged, putting the fire out but given the burner was on the fire subsequently reignited."
Fire crews responded to a 911 call reporting smoke from the roof at about 11:15 p.m., closing the road in order to stretch a fire hose to the hydrant across the road.
There were no injuries, and crews from Lac La Biche, Hylo and Plamondon wrapped up at 12:57. RCMP Cst. Chris Clark said that quick action by the volunteer fire fighter limited the extent of the damage.
