This summer, highways north of Lac La Biche were affected by increased wildfire activity that saw the temporary closures of Highway 63 north of Wandering River as well as Highway 881 between Conklin and Janvier.

The changes mean that fire permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis, and that safe outdoor fires for cooking or warmth are permitted in engineered fire pits only.

On Saturday, July 23, the Lac La Biche Regional Humane Society hosted its first-ever 'Dog Days Summer Fair', which took place at the local animal shelter from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. The event featured various games, door prizes, tours of the facility, and an opportunity for people to see dogs and cats.

Several dozen stayed in Lac La Biche on Tuesday, July 23. They were part of the contingent of 55 Australian firefighters who arrived in Edmonton on July 21.

Since the start of the construction season in late spring, there have been several projects taking place in Lac La Biche.

Since 2017, Lac La Biche County Fire Services has administered the program locally. Through Fire Smart, fire officials conduct free home assessments and free wood chipping services for residents wanting to reduce wildfire risk on their properties.
