The community fish fry, which for the past few years has been organized by the Rotary Club of Lac La Biche, was held at McArthur Place on Friday, Aug. 2.

The midway ran from Aug. 2-4 and was set up in the Bold Centre parking lot.

The regular season for the Voyageurs starts on Oct. 18 with an away game against Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) followed by the home opener vs CUE on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Bold Centre.

Over the summer months, visitors to the Lac La Biche Mission can learn about the history of the site, including the role it played over a five-year period as a residential school in the late 19th century. 

Stacey Skyrpan, a trapper from the Owl River area, says while it isn’t common for women to be involved in trapping, an increasing number are showing interest in and pursuing the traditional activity.

The events took place later Friday morning starting at 11 a.m.

The breakfast was held from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Lac La Biche Heritage Centre.

The cart, which is anticipated to be finished in time for the annual Silver Birch Rodeo and Celebration Days, resembles the type used by Metis people to migrate during the Canadian west.

Temporary disruptions are expected at the William J. Cadzow - Lac La Biche Healthcare Centre Emergency Department this month.

The owners of a Lac La Biche-area restaurant were dismayed to find that a First Nations Canadian flag that had been flying outside their establishment for the past year was recently taken.
