Bonnyville firefighters climb for charity in Calgary

On June 5, 11 firefighters from Bonnyville Station 5 geared up to take part in the Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge held in Calgary to raise money for a charity that supports individuals with cancer and their families.

BONNYVILLE – Firefighters from Bonnyville Station 5 geared up on June 5 to take part in the Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge held in Calgary.

The 11 local firefighters who took part in the climb raised $4,920 for Wellspring Calgary, which was the event's selected charity recipient. Wellspring is a charity that provides programs and services that meet the emotional, social and practical needs of those living with cancer, their caregivers and families.

Taking part in the annual stair climbing event in person were nine Bonnyville members who hiked up the service hill at the Canada Olympic Park in full bunker gear with an air pack. In total, participants in Calgary climbed the equivalent of 44 floors.

Meanwhile, two other Bonnyville firefighters took part in the climb virtually by climbing the equivalent of 55 floors on Walsh Field’s bleachers.

Earlier this year, four Station 5 members had fundraised to take part in the LLS Stairclimb held in Seattle.
