Bonnyville police pursue suspect on foot

Last week, Bonnyville RCMP pursued a suspect on foot after noticing a truck alleged to be stolen and was also reportedly missing a licence plate.

BONNYVILLE – While a member of the Bonnyville RCMP was dealing with an unrelated matter in Kehewin on May 29 at 11:15 a.m., he noticed a truck reported to have no licence plate and was soon determined to have been stolen. 

“When the occupants of the truck noticed the police officer, they fled on foot,” according to an RCMP press release. 

“The officer gave chase on foot and captured a 46-year-old man from Elk Point.” 

The man was charged with possession of the stolen truck (Property Theft Over $5,000), driving while prohibited and resisting arrest.   

He was brought before a Justice of the Peace who released him to appear in court on June 21. 

Double assault, suspect arrested 

On May 29 at 2 a.m., the Bonnyville RCMP received a report from a woman stating that both she and her boyfriend had been assaulted in Kehewin.   

Members attended the scene, located and arrested the suspect.   

The victims were taken via ambulance to the hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.   

A 31-year-old man from Kehewin has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault. 

He was brought before a Justice of the Peace who released him to appear in court on June 28. 

Impaired driving 

While on patrol, a member of the Bonnyville RCMP pulled over a motorist on 52 St. in Bonnyville for a Traffic Safety Act infraction.   

A Mandatory Alcohol Screening was performed and the driver who allegedly had open liquor in the vehicle was reported to have failed the breath test.   

The 29-year-old woman from Onion Lake was issued a Provincial Sanctions for Impaired Driving, which included a $1,200 fine, a 90-day licence suspension and a 30-day vehicle seizure. 

The incident took place on May 29 at 4 a.m. 

 Two women found sleeping in stolen SUV 

After a motorist reported two individuals in a vehicle parked at a residence on Highway 28, which seemed suspicious to him, Bonnyville RCMP members attended the scene.   

Attending the location on Highway 28 near Range Road 465 at 7:20 a.m. on May 30, officers reported to have located two women sleeping inside a stolen SUV.   

Both women, a 20-year-old from Bonnyville and a 34-year-old from Cold Lake, were arrested for possession of stolen property over $5,000 and charged with mischief and breaking and entering a residence.   

The 20-year-old from Bonnyville was also charged with resisting arrest.   

Both have been released from custody and are due to appear in court on July 19. 

The stolen vehicle was recovered, say police. 

Suspect found in bushes 

At 4:15 p.m. on June 1, Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to an assault in progress in Kehewin where the suspect was reported to not only be assaulting the victim but breaching release conditions in the process.   

The female suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.   

Police Dog Services were contacted and while members were en route, a Bonnyville officer located the woman hiding in a nearby bush, according to RCMP. She was arrested without incident.   

The 23-year-old woman from Bonnyville has been charged with assault and three counts of breaching her undertaking conditions.   

She was brought before a Justice of the Peace who released her to appear in court in June. The date for her court appearance was not provided by press deadline.
