BONNYVILLE – In a bid to connect with the public, the Bonnyville RCMP will host an information session at 5 p.m. at the Beaver River Fish and Game Hall on Oct. 19, in Bonnyville.

According to RCMP, information to be shared at the session will include local crime statistics, RCMP community priorities, and crime prevention initiatives.

When asked if there has been an increase in concern about crime from the public, Staff Sgt. Sarah Parke, Detachment Commander with the Bonnyville RCMP, stated that while Bonnyville police have not noted an increase in concern from the public, “there is always a concern that exists among the community about the crime being committed within it.”

“It’s a common shared concern amongst the public,” stated Parke, explaining that questions and concerns that one member of a community might have may also be shared by others. So, “this forum will allow for a group discussion on topics of a shared interest.”

She added information sessions such as the upcoming Oct. 19 information session are not unique to Bonnyville RCMP, “and are being held in one format or another across the province by all detachments.”

Representatives from other partner agencies expected at the session will include the peace officer programs from both the Town of Bonnyville and the MD of Bonnyville, Bonnyville Victims Services Society, and the RCMP’s Lakeland Crime Reduction Unit, according to Parke.

The K Division Community Policing Community Safety & Wellbeing Unit will also provide information on Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED).
