LAC LA BICHE – Three councillors picked up an additional committee each in the wake of a motion to rescind Coun. Darlene Beniuk’s appointments for Lac La Biche County Council.
The Ward 3 councillor sat on the Agricultural Appeals Committee, Agricultural Services Board and Veterinary Services Incorporated/Soil Conservation Act Appeal Committee, Lac La Biche County Library Board, Municipal Planning Commission, Greater North Foundation, Lakeland Interpretive Society, and Northern Lights Library System.
Beniuk is facing charges for allegedly uttering threats and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
“Council did direct us to pare down a little bit the list of appointments that are required,” said Heather Reid, the lead legislative officer for Lac La Biche County.
Reid noted some committees are incompatible with each other. Councillors can not sit on the Municipal Planning Commission if they are part of the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board, making Ward 1 Coun. Kevin Paré and Deputy Mayor Jason Stedman both ineligible to replace Beniuk on the Municipal Planning Commission.
A motion to appoint Paré to the Agricultural Services Board, Ward 7 Coun. John Mondal to the Municipal Planning Commission, and Ward 5 Coun. Charlynn Moore to the Lakeland Interpretive Society was carried.
The appointments will stand until the organizational meeting for the next municipal council on Oct. 30.
The remainder of Beniuk’s committees will be short one member until after the municipal election in October. They do all have at least one Lac La Biche County councillor on them, who will continue to report back to council.
