SMOKY LAKE - Aspen View Public Schools has confirmed a positive case of COVID-19 has been diagnosed in an individual from H.A. Kostash (HAK) School in Smoky Lake.

"HAK students and staff who had close contact with the individual have been directed to stay home," according to a media release from the school division. "Anyone considered a close contact of a case of COVID-19 is contacted directly by Alberta Health Services with further direction."

To protect the privacy of the individual, no further case details will be provided. The school continues to operate with current protocols in place for all other students and staff.

“Alberta Health Services is working closely with Aspen View and HAK administration to ensure the necessary steps are taken to protect the health and safety of students and staff,” superintendent Neil O’Shea said, Wednesday afternoon. The division reminds parents and guardians of students, as well as staff members, to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19.

Staff and students must complete the AHS checklist each day prior to attending school, screening for any COVID-19 symptoms. If a child or staff members has any of the symptoms of illness listed on the Alberta Health daily checklist, they must stay home.
