ELK POINT - Garbage collection in Elk Point may just to have to wait for warmer weather.

With no collection last week due to the Dec. 24 to Jan. 4 Christmas closure of town facilities and services, and wind chills Tuesday afternoon sitting at -38 degrees Celsius, the Town of Elk Point has advised residents of possible interruptions in some services as the cold weather continues.

Due to the extreme weather conditions and the Town’s policy not to operate equipment at temperatures below -33, there may be interruptions to such services as garbage pickup and snow removal.

With residential bins possibly filled to the brim after a second week of garbage, residents are advised that Public Works will pick up extra bags of garbage placed by the bins as soon as weather permits.

The transfer station gates will also be open, pending extreme weather conditions, for those who wish to deliver their own garbage to that location, as the Town staff members continues to cope with the cold snap.
