Friday collision near Smoky Lake under investigation

Police are investigating a two vehicle collision that happened on Highway 28, in the Smoky Lake area, on Friday morning.

SMOKY LAKE - Police are investigating a two vehicle collision that happened on Highway 28, in the Smoky Lake area, on Friday morning.

At about 9:14 a.m. on Feb. 2, Smoky Lake RCMP responded to the collision, near Range Road 175, just west of Smoky Lake

"Initial investigation showed that a vehicle travelling eastbound crossed over the centre line and struck an oncoming semi tanker, causing it to roll multiple times," according to information from RCMP.

The 63-year-old male driver of the semi tanker was transported by ambulance to hospital for injuries.

The 37-year-old male and lone occupant of the other vehicle was extracted by the local fire department and was transported by STARS to an Edmonton area hospital.

"The highway was closed for numerous hours as a RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst attended the scene to investigate. After preliminary investigation, drugs and alcohol are believed to be a factor in the collision. Smoky Lake RCMP continue to investigate," according to information from police.
