Friends on a drive say, 'Happy 95'

Friends of Lac La Biche's Wardene Whitford organized a drive-through birthday parade in front of the LacAlta lodge seniors' complex for the vibrant 95 year old on Saturday afternoon.

Some dressed in 1920s and 30s gangster attire, the crew of about a dozen people rolled a horn-honking, sign-waving motorcade along Beaverhill Road in front of the seniors facility where Whitford now calls home. The gang got together for a fun photo with Whitford as well.

Whitford, a great-grandmother and mother of two, has been an active member of many community groups, including the Lac La Biche Legion, area schools and the hospital.

Whitford was a founder of the Lac La Biche Legion's ongoing campaign to highlight veteran graves in the local cemetery with Canadian flags. Her husband, Roy, who passed away in 2005, was a veteran of the Second World War.
