On April 29, a group of volunteers gathered at the Legion to begin preparations for a Steak Night and Beer Tent to be held on Canada Day. Money raised will go towards The Rolling Barrage to bring awareness to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in military personnel and first responders.

BONNYVILLE – Canada Day in Bonnyville is already shaping up to be an event filled day.

“The committee for the Bonnyville Canada celebration has given us a nod to pursue our Steak Night and Beer Tent at Jessie Lake on July 1,” said Jamie Beaupre, the president of the Bonnyville Legion.

All proceeds brought in after expenses will be donated to The Rolling Barrage.

The Rolling Barrage holds an annual motorcycle ride from Halifax to Burnaby B.C. to fight the stigma of PTSD and raise funds for programs or organizations that help Canadian Armed Forces members, veterans, and first responders get treatment to live with the mental injuries resulting from their service to Canada and their communities.

The Canada Day Steak Night and Beer Tent is a group effort between the Legion, Legion Riders, and the Station 5 Bonnyville Fire Department, explained Beaupre.

Organizers have already acquired approval from the Town of Bonnyville and a liquor licence to host the evening event, as well as a handful of donations from community partners for the event.

Residents heading down to Jessie Lake for Canada Day celebrations will be able to pick up an 8 oz. steak, baked potato, beans and coleslaw for $15 from 5 to 8 p.m.

The Rolling Barrage will be making a stop in Bonnyville on Aug. 13 before continuing their ride across Canada.
