Got questions on new fishing regulations?

Online survey and webinars will focus on fishing regulations for 2021

LAKELAND - How big's your walleye? How many perch can I catch here? Do you think answering this survey will have any effect on the regulations? So many questions.

If you've got concerns or opinions on sportfishing in the Lakeland, then Alberta Environment and Parks wants to hook you into their 2021 Sportfishing Regulations Survey.

The survey is out now and is running in conjunction with a series of public webinars that start on Jan. 18. The webinars will be held to explain proposed changes to the fishing regulations in water bodies across the province, including the 150-plus fishing lakes across the Lakeland region.

Register for a session

The webinars will run until Feb. 8, gathering public input that may be used in the final printing of the annual sportfishing regulations. The sessions will cover a variety of topics, including an introduction to fisheries management, harvest slot sizes, special harvest licenses, and proposed regulation changes for zones across the province. A full list of seminars, dates and registration details can be found here.

Pinehurst changes

The meeting discussing proposed regulation changes for northeastern Alberta will take place on Jan. 27 at 7 p.m.

One of the changes listed for the northeast is a closure on walleye for Pinehurst Lake. Last year the regulations allowed a one-limit catch of walleye in the slot size between 50 and 55 centimetres. For 2021, government officials say an survey of the lake in 2020 shoed a "declining abundance" of the species.
