COLD LAKE – Imperial Oil’s Cold Lake operations have been designated a coronavirus outbreak location by Alberta Health Services (AHS).
As of Nov. 19, there were 13 active cases among workers at the facility.
“We’re completing contact tracing for all of these individuals and have asked additional members of our workforce to self-isolate while further testing is underway,” detailed Imperial spokesperson Lisa Schmidt.
She added, “We’re committed to safeguarding the safety and health of our workforce and we’re in contact with those who have tested positive to ensure they’re supported. Our thoughts are with these individuals and hope they make a full recovery.”
Imperial Cold Lake proactively implemented and sustained stringent measures to ensure the safety of their team, including enhanced cleaning and sterilization and ensuring social distancing, isolation protocols and continuous care for anyone not feeling well or who has developed symptoms, providing emergency contacts for on-site assistance if an employee has symptoms, health concerns, or mental health support, among others.
“There’s nothing more important to us than the safety and health of our workforce and our communities,” Schmidt stressed. “It’s Imperial’s priority as we continue to take actions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
The organization continues to coordinate closely with AHS as they manage the issue.
