ST. PAUL – A radiant day enveloped the St. Paul Regional High School track as junior high students donned their schools’ colours at the annual St. Paul Athletics Association (SPAA) junior high meet on June 6.

Over 350 students from 12 schools attended the meet, which consisted of events in a variety of categories such as shot put, relays, discus throw, high jump, long jump, and many more.

As the day came to a close, École Racette Jr. High School topped the list with the most points in the overall team rankings, scoring a combined team score of 1,970.50. Glen Avon School came in second place with 1,680.50 points, followed by F.G. Miller from Elk Point with 1,106 points.

On the girls’ side, Racette athletes earned 994 points, with Glen Avon coming in second with 865 point, and Two Hills scoring 418.50 points.

On the boys’ side, Racette again came in first with 976.50 points, followed by Glen Avon with 815.60 points, and F.G. Miller with 778 points.

Alain Mahé, one of the organizers of the meet, said the day went smoothly, and “the students were in good spirits... they competed really well.” He said the organizers were all happy to witness good competition, and to see the students have fun outside.

He credited all those involved with the event, including the athletic directors from all schools who worked together. “If it wasn’t for everybody’s cooperation... it wouldn’t be possible for the kids,” he said.

New Records

New records were also set during the meet, with Jacob Petruk from F.G. Miller toppling the 2016 record of 12.16 metres in the ‘Boys Under 13 Shot Put 3 kg C’ event with his 12.33 metre throw.
