SADDLE LAKE - Alberta RCMP Major Crimes has taken over an investigation in Saddle Lake, following what has been described as a "suspicious" death on Monday.
At about 9:05 a.m. on June 7, St. Paul RCMP responded to a call of a gunshot being heard, followed by a vehicle fleeing from a residence on Saddle Lake Cree Nation.
"The caller then went out and located an injured person in the driveway," according to RCMP.
St. Paul RCMP attended the scene along with emergency medical services and it was determined that one man was dead, "and the circumstances of the male’s death were suspicious."
Alberta RCMP Major Crimes has taken over carriage of the investigation and are at the scene, reads an RCMP release from Monday afternoon. St. Paul RCMP, along with Eastern Alberta District RCMP General Investigation Section and RCMP Forensic Identification Section, are assisting and have secured the scene.
"It is very early in this investigation and further details are not available. Further information will be released when available," according to police.
St. Paul RCMP is looking to the public for any information in relation to the incident. Anyone with dash cam footage from Saddle Lake Cree Nation between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on June 7, is being asked to contact St. Paul RCMP at 780-645-8870 or any local police.
