FISHING LAKE - A man has been charged following a report of assault of three people at a residence in Fishing Lake Métis Settlement in the early morning hours of Jan. 22. Police were dispatched to a call at about 2:10 a.m.

"The victims attempted to leave in a vehicle but got stuck a short distance away," according to RCMP. The male is alleged to have then intimidated the victims while holding a firearm before he walked off into a wooded area.

"Elk Point RCMP and Cold Lake RCMP attended the location, brought the victims to safety, and set up containment of the area," according to police.

A suspect was ultimately located within the residence by responding officers.

With assistance from the RCMP Police Dog Services and the RCMP Emergency Response Team, the suspect was safely taken into custody the same day, shortly before 8 a.m.

Marlon Lacombe, 31, of Fishing Lake Métis Settlement, has been charged with assault with a weapon, assault, uttering threats, theft, unauthorized possession of a firearm and failing to comply with a release order.

"Lacombe remains in custody following judicial hearings; however, matters have been adjourned respecting his release," according to RCMP.

He is scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on Feb. 17.

As these matters are now before the court no further information can be provided by police.
