Bishop Paul Terrio presents LCSD Superintendent Pamela Guilbault with a donation from Mary’s Table for Light of Christ School’s Lunch Program.

LAC LA BICHE - Light of Christ Catholic School in Lac La Biche will see a boost in funding to the school’s student lunch program thanks to a $5,000 donation from a relatively new initiative in the Lakeland.

The funds were provided by Mary’s Table, a subcommittee of Caritas – Christian love of humankind – created to support Lakeland students and alleviate hunger.

Mary’s Table is made possible through the Diocese of St. Paul and the office of Bishop Paul Terrio.

“Kids were coming to school with an empty stomach and our response was to create Mary’s Table,” said Terrio.

The first schools to benefit from the program were within St. Paul Education in December of 2021. After seeing the success, it was expanded to include Light of Christ Catholic School for the 2022-23 school year.

“We are thrilled to see the program expand to Light of Christ in Lac La Biche. We all know students learn best when they are fed, and thanks to this donation, we can ensure our students are focusing on learning instead of their hunger,” said Lakeland Catholic Schools Superintendent Pamela Guilbault.

Guilbault was a leading force in the formation of the subcommittee, and suggested efforts start in communities that could truly use the help.

“When it started to grow and we had received some financial contributions, we decided to expand the program. We know there are needs in the Lac La Biche area, and it was fitting that we could offer this donation to Lakeland Catholic Schools for Light of Christ School,” she added.
