National Indigenous Peoples Day at the C2

On Tuesday, the Bonnyville Friendship Centre will be hosting a free barbecue and showcase at the Bonnyville and District Centennial Centre's (C2) RJ Lalonde Arena in celebration of National Indigenous People’s Day.

During the Winter Festival held outside of the C2 in February, Aislynn Whitstone closed out the evening's performances with the Womens' Fancy Dance with her fancy shawl and her accompanying regalia.

BONNYVILLE – A dancing and drumming showcase will take over the RJ Lalonde Arena at the Bonnyville and District Centennial Centre (C2) on June 21, for National Indigenous People’s Day. 

On Tuesday, the Bonnyville Friendship Centre is hosting a range of events that will kick off at the C2, starting with a free barbecue at 11:30 a.m.  

Opening ceremonies and a showcase will begin at 1 p.m. 

The showcase, held in celebration of National Indigenous People’s Day, will consist of 35 dancers in regalia, as well as three separate drum groups. 

Drumming performances will include The Cree, a Dene group from Manitoba, and an all women Anishinaabe drum group, along with dancers.
