New principals to start at Bonnyville schools this fall

As the next school year approaches, Lakeland Catholic School Division has begun to announce changes to the leadership of its schools. While Bonnyville’s École Dr. Bernard Brosseau School will see a new principal arriving this fall, a new vice principal is set to fill a vacant spot at École Notre Dame Elementary School.

BONNYVILLE – As Lakeland Catholic School Division (LCSD) prepares for another school year, announcements are trickling out informing parents of new roles to be taken on by current teachers and school administrators this coming fall.

A new principal will be leading École Dr. Bernard Brosseau School for the 2022/23 school year.

Joe Marion, who is the current vice principal at École Notre Dame Elementary School, will be stepping into the role of principal at Dr. Bernard Brosseau School in late August.

“I am humbled to be able to serve École Dr. Brosseau in this new capacity and I look forward to building strong positive relationships with the staff, students and entire school community,” Marion said in a statement provided by LCSD.

The vice principal, soon to be principal, joined Lakeland Catholic as a teacher at Holy Cross Elementary School in 2016 where he taught Grade 5 and Grade 4/5 in Cold Lake.

Originally from Ontario, Marion became vice principal of École Notre Dame Elementary School and taught physical education and religious studies starting in 2020.

Throughout the 2021/22 school year he continued his role as vice principal in addition to taking on the position of classroom support teacher.

“I chose education because I truly love learning and helping students reach their full potential,” he said. “I had phenomenal teachers growing up, who put their heart and souls into their profession. From a very early age I saw how powerful and valuable teaching is.”

For Marion, leadership is not just a nine to five job.

“It’s a fully integrated way of life – a matter of head, hand, and heart. It’s about thinking, doing, and being. It means serving and accompanying all who you encounter to bring out the best in them for the good of all. Just as our greatest teacher, Christ, does for us.”

Lakeland Catholic has always felt like home, he said. “Since my first day, I was welcomed with open arms, each one of our schools has such a feeling of cohesiveness and collaboration.”

Marion attended Laurentian University and received his Bachelor of Education with a major in Geography and minor in Religion.

He is currently enrolled in the Masters of Education course for Administration and Inclusive Education with Xavier University.

As Marion leaves his position as vice principal at Notre Dame Elementary for his new role at École Dr. Brosseau, he has created an opportunity for another Lakeland Catholic staff member.

New vice principal takes the reins at Notre Dame Elementary

From teacher to vice principal, Megan Lanceleve is entering a new chapter in her career as the vice principal of École Notre Dame Elementary School.

Lanceleve grew up attending Lakeland Catholic herself, so it was a fitting transition when she became a teacher and returned to where it all started.

After beginning her teaching career at Holy Cross Elementary School five years ago, Lanceleve is pivoting in a new direction as she takes on an administrative role within Lakeland Catholic.

“I am excited to work in a new role and the skills that come with it. I am also looking forward to being active in a different community,” she said.

“I hope to foster a sense of approachability to the school and the families we serve. I want to ensure our students’ needs are met not only from an educational standpoint, but also physically, emotionally, and spiritually.”

Soon to be the newest vice principal of Notre Dame Elementary, Lanceleve began her own educational journey first attending St. Dominic Elementary School before graduating at Assumption Jr/Sr High School.

Lanceleve then attended the University of Alberta where she completed her Bachelor of Education degree.  Outside of school she can be found on the court coaching volleyball.
