Night parade is this Friday in Lac La Biche – so get in line

Organizers want as many floats as possible to join the night parade for Light Up Night on December 1

There is still room for entries in the Light Up the Night holiday parade that will roll down Lac La Biche’s Main Street on Friday, December 1.

Like past events, the annual night parade features vehicles and walking groups illuminated with holiday lights and creative decorations to help spread the holiday cheer and promote their businesses and organizations.

Parade, big tree, shopping deals, hot chocolate

The parade is part of the Light Up the Night event that will see the announcement of the community’s Junior Citizen of the Year and the lighting of the 40-foot-tall Christmas tree in the downtown core. Businesses up and down the Main Street corridor will be staying open late and offering shopping deals, and local groups will be offering hot chocolate and other refreshments.

“It’s a great night-out, and it really shines a light — literally for those in the parade — on our local businesses and our overall community spirit,” said Charlyn Moore, a municipal council member, local realtor and one of the Light Up the Night’s founding organizers. “We wanted to put on a family-themed night to warm people up as the nights get colder. It’s a great way to showcase how alive and welcoming our community is.”

Moore and the volunteer board that puts the fun night together are hoping for a little push in the days leading up the parade will get even more entries into the parade.

In past years, events have seen than 30 entries roll along the Main Street towards the big tree.

“It’s so great to see that community involvement. It’s just a great to see the smiling faces all along the parade route,” said Moore.

This year’s Light Up the Night events get underway with the parade on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The parade will start near the Lac La Biche Museum and run up Main Street to the big tree at the Northern Lights Public Schools sub-office on 101B Avenue. Several local businesses have already signed up for the parade. The iconic Santa Claus Coca-Cola truck will be decorated and rolling again in this year’s parade, bringing the Jolly Elf himself and this year’s Junior Citizen of the Year to the big tree for the official lighting.

Entry information can be found at the Light UP the Night Lac La Biche facebook page, or by calling the Lac La Biche and District Chamber of Commerce at 780-623-2818.
