No fuss on the bus

School starts Wednesday and new students have been learning about their new rides to school

LAKELAND - It's not just the wheels on the bus that go round and round — so do the safety lessons.

On Tuesday afternoon, just one day before school starts for all Northern Lights Public Schools students, the Meet the Bus sessions rolled into the Vera M Welsh parking lot in Lac La Biche. The sessions have been held at NLPS schools across the region for the last two weeks, introducing young students and their families to the their new yellow rides.

On Tuesday, dozens of youngsters and their families climbed on board Marlena Bowring's school bus for an introduction and quick safety lesson.

Youngsters were reminded to speak quietly to their friends on the bus, always sit facing forward and to listen to the bus driver along with some other easy-to-remember rules. The youngsters were also treated to a short drive around the block to get them comfortable.

The first day of school for local Northern Lights Public School students is Wednesday, Sept. 1.

Lac La Biche RCMP and peace officers remind area motorists to follow school zone speed limits and to watch for increased activity around area schools.
