A police vehicle was recently hit by ice while driving along Highway 28. The ice came off a truck that was also travelling on the road.

BONNYVILLE - Bonnyville police are reminding motorists to clean their vehicle from snow and ice to prevent dangerous situations from arising on the road.

Recent fluctuating temperatures can cause ice to develop on vehicles, especially flat top trucks and trailers.

"When driving at highway speeds this ice can become a deadly projectile," according to information from Bonnyville RCMP.  Police say they would like to remind motorists to "completely remove large chunks of snow and ice from their rooftops before hitting the roads."

A photo was provided to media, showing a Bonnvyville RCMP vehicle that was hit with an ice projectile from a truck and trailer along Highway 28, earlier in the week.

Causing a disturbance

A man entered a local fast food establishment on on Feb. 9, at 8:30 p.m. asking staff to call 911 on his behalf as a strange male was chasing and harassing him.

"The suspect then entered the fast food restaurant and continued to harass the victim and was causing a disturbance," according to police. RCMP attended the location and arrested the suspect who was intoxicated.

"Further investigation determined the suspect had recently been released from the Edmonton Remand Centre and was on various conditions that he was now breaching," according to police.

The 29-year-old man from Whitecourt, Alta., is charged with two counts of failing to comply with a probation order, failing to comply with a release condition and mischief under $5,000.

He was released by a Justice of the Peace during a bail hearing and he is set to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on March 15.

On Feb. 5 at 11:20 a.m., Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to a residence in the 5500 block of 55 Street for a disturbance.

"Upon their arrival, RCMP determined that a 23-year-old male from Fishing Lake had assaulted a 16-year-old female and her 42-year-old mother before fleeing the scene," according to police.

There is now a warrant out for the man's arrest and he has been charged with two counts of assault.

In the early morning hours of Feb. 6, Bonnyville RCMP conducted a check in Kehewin on a man on curfew in order to ensure he was at home.

"The male was not at home."

The 28-year-old was later located, arrested and charged for breaching his curfew.  He will appear in court on March 29.
