RCMP respond to several calls in Kehewin

Over the last two weeks, Bonnyville RCMP have attended several calls in Kehewin Cree Nation. A handful of incidents resulted in arrests and charges being filed for a range of offenses including mischief, assault, stolen property and outstanding warrants.

KEHEWIN – Over the last two weeks, Bonnyville RCMP have attended several calls in Kehewin Cree Nation. Many resulted in charges being filed. 

Near miss 

On April 8, a 41-year-old man nearly struck an on-duty officer at a property in Kehewin with his vehicle at 11:30 a.m., according to an RCMP press release.   

As a member of the Bonnyville RCMP was walking up to a residence in Kehewin, a pickup truck emerged from the back of the property and erratically drove off, narrowly avoiding the officer, say police. 

The officer was able to identify the driver who evaded RCMP that day.   

An arrest warrant was issued and was later executed on April 13, according to RCMP 

The 41-year-old man from Kehewin is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and driving while suspended. 

He was released by a Justice of the Peace and is scheduled to appear in court on May 3. 

Stolen truck located 

The following day on April 9, the Bonnyville RCMP received a complaint around 2:30 p.m. about a suspicious truck pulling up at a residence in Kehewin.  

Police attended the scene and discovered the truck had been stolen.   

“Evidence on scene linked the stolen truck to man who was located in the residence,” state RCMP.  

The 43-year-old man from Kehewin was arrested for being in possession of the stolen truck, as well as outstanding warrants from other matters.   

He was held for a bail hearing and released by a Justice of the Peace to appear in Provincial Court on May 3. 

Three arrests made following entry warrant 

Three people were arrested at a residence in Kehewin on outstanding warrants.  

While RCMP Lakeland Crime Reduction Unit members were conducting patrols in an unmarked police vehicle in the Town of Bonnyville on April 13, they observed an offender known to have a warrant for his arrest.

Members then followed him to a residence in Kehewin.

A warrant was sought, granted and executed to enter that residence where the male suspect was located and arrested along with two other individuals whoalso had warrants for their arrest.   

The driver, a 29-year-old man from Kehewin, was charged with resisting arrest, failing to comply with a release condition, driving while unauthorized, and driving without insurance.   

He was held for a bail hearing and was released by a Justice of the Peace to appear in Provincial Court on May 3.    

A 41-year-old man from Kehewin was also charged with obstructing the police. He was released by a Justice of the Peace to appear in court on May 3.   

A 31-year-old woman from Edmonton was charged with obstructing the police and was also released by a Justice of the Peace to appear in court on May 3. 

Mischief, assault and uttering death threats 

Just before 8 p.m. on April 15, the Bonnyville RCMP received a 911 call to attend a residence in Kehewin.   

A woman had allegedly vandalized a parked vehicle and when two occupants of the residence confronted her about it, she reportedly assaulted both of them.   

The female suspect then reportedly walked to a nearby house where she allegedly threatened to return with a gun and kill two people at that residence.   

The 45-year-old woman from Kehewin is charged with two counts of assault, two counts of uttering death threats and mischief over $5,000.   

She has since been released and is awaiting her court date, according to RCMP.
