SADDLE LAKE - Saddle Lake Cree Nation elected its new band council on June 11 and will return to the ballot box on June 18 to select its next chief.

John E. Large, James R. Steinhauer, Glen J. Whiskeyjack, Eddy Makokis, Charles A. Cardinal, Kevin A. Delver, Kenton F. Cardinal, Arthur C. Steinhauer, and Dale E. Steinhauer were elected from a panel of 50 nominees.

“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all newly elected and re-elected council members. Your dedication to public service and commitment to our community are truly commendable. We look forward to your leadership, collaboration, and the positive impact you will make in the term ahead. Thank you for stepping up to serve," reads a statement from Saddle Lake Cree Nation, posted to their website.

Chief Electoral Officer Steve Wood was unavailable to speak to the media about the election.

The new band council includes a mix of old and new faces. John Large, Charles Cardinal, Kevin Delver, and James Steinhauer are all incumbents who served on the previous council.

Voting for chief will take place from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Youth Centre Gym in Saddle Lake on June 18.
