ST. PAUL - School divisions in the St. Paul area have cancelled buses for Feb. 8, due to extreme cold weather.

According to the St. Paul Education Regional Division website, all buses have been cancelled for Monday morning. Temperatures overnight are expected to drop to -39C but feel like -52C.

The division released a notice Sunday afternoon, stating buses were cancelled "due to extreme cold weather conditions."

Students who attend schools within the Conseil scolaire Centre-Est are also affected by bus cancellations - this includes École du Sommet. The CSCE website includes a notice, stating buses have been cancelled for Feb. 8, also due to the extreme cold.

Both divisions noted that school will remain open throughout the day.

It's cold out!

Almost the entire province is under some sort of weather alert according to the Environment Canada website.

For the Lakeland region, the extreme cold warning states wind chill values are expected to dip between -40C and -55C.

"This prolonged cold snap is expected to persist through the coming week for many areas of Alberta. There will be some moderation in temperature at times, typically during daylight hours," reads the weather alert.

When outdoors, "Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes."

Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially when there is wind.
