ST. LINA - A total of 15 speakers and four presenters from 4-H clubs across the St. Paul 4-H District took part in their second round of competitions for 2022 in St. Lina on Sunday, March 13, after placing first in the earlier round at club level.
Four members provided demonstrations, which were judged by Dale Hedrick, Ed Palmer and Leon Ward, St. Paul 4-H Multi Club junior member Kurt Yaremko and intermediate member Ethan Yaremko doing a fine job with their presentations on ‘Grain Farming Machinery and Equipment’ and ‘Goats are the G.O.A.T.’ as the only demonstrators in those age groups. At the senior level, Elk Point 4-H Multi Club member Darianna Boorse came first with ‘It’s All About the Curl’, while St. Paul Multi member Mercedes Trefanenko was second with ‘Joy, Grumpy. Anxiety and Fear.’
Three new sets of judges had an even larger task as they heard both prepared and impromptu speeches from the top speakers in every club.
St. Paul Multi member Payslee Trefanenko placed first in the Junior division with “On Top of the World,’ with Elk Point Multi Club member Sierra Smith coming second with ‘My Life on the Farm’. Also competing in this age group were St, Lina member Morris Amyotte, Goodridge member Aurora Janz and Elk Point Beef member Alexis Danyluk. Amanda Mathiot, Kailey Wirsta and Ross Krekoski judged the junior group.
Shyanne Klatt of Elk Point Beef took top honors in the Intermediate group with ‘The Unknown’, edging out Naya Janz of Goodridge Beef, who placed second with ‘News: Fact or Fiction’. Savannah Fontaine of St. Paul, Dayton Dechaine of St. Lina and Jove Boorse of Elk Point Multi were also in the running in this age group, which was judged by Connie Landsiedel, Katelynne Ringuette and Harold Ross.
St. Paul member Ashlynn Trefanenko, who advised listeners to “Be More Like a Dog’ led the way in the Senior division, with Jorja Hagen of Goodridge and ‘The Unattainable Quest for Perfection’ placing second. Shaylyn Klatt, Elk Point Multi, Lexi Wirsta, Elk Point Beef and Alayna Dechaine, St. Lina also were in the senior lineup, judged by Diana Richer, Michael Kirk and Sharon Boorse.
Roxanne Feland and Amanda Amyotte served as timers and tellers for the speeches, while David Dechaine and Gerard Dechaine served those roles for the presentations.
The Regional 4-H Communications competition is slated for Saturday, March 26 in St. Paul.
