ST. PAUL - While the focus for many sports enthusiasts may have shifted to Beijing, one of the nation's top curling events is now underway in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Curling teams from across the country have gathered in Thunder Bay for the 2022 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. While most of Team Canada is made up of women curlers from outside Alberta, and the team officially curls out of the Gimli Curling Club based in Manitoba, there is one member who calls Alberta home - more specifically, Lottie Lake, Alta.
Val Sweeting is playing third on Team Kerri Einarson at the national competition. Along with skip Kerri Einarson, the rest of the team is made up of second Shannon Birchard, lead Briane Meilleur, alternate Krysten Karwacki, and coach Reid Carruthers.
Lottie Lake is located within the County of St. Paul.
The Tournament of Hearts started on Jan. 28, and will wrap up this weekend on Feb. 6.
Sweeting and the rest of Team Canada will hit the ice at 5 p.m. tonight (7 p.m. Eastern Time) for their first playoff game. The tournament is televised on TSN. Curling Canada also has a YouTube channel.
