SADDLE LAKE - Two people have been arrested following an incident in Saddle Lake that involved firearms and a pursuit through Saddle Lake and into the counties of St. Paul and Smoky Lake.
On May 12 at about 12:30 a.m., St. Paul RCMP responded to a number of calls of firearms being discharged in the townsite of Saddle Lake Cree Nation, according to RCMP. A suspect vehicle description was given by witnesses and police were able to locate the vehicle. A pursuit was initiated.
RCMP used a tire deflation device, which successfully stopped the vehicle, and resulted in two suspects being arrested without incident.
"The quick call from Saddle Lake community members at the onset of this investigation assisted us in the arrest of the two accused," said Sgt. David Graham with St. Paul RCMP. "Public safety is our number one concern and we appreciate the communities engagement with this priority."
Simon Shirt, 31, of Goodfish Lake has been charged with:
- Flight from police
- Impaired operation of a motor vehicle
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Fail to comply (X2)
- Possession of ammunition contrary to a prohibition order (X2)
- Possession of prohibited ammunition in a motor vehicle
Jasmine Crane, 20, of Saddle Lake has been charged with:
- Fail to comply (X5)
- Possession of ammunition contrary to a prohibition order
- Possession of prohibited ammunition in a motor vehicle
Both of the accused were remanded into custody after a judicial hearing and are scheduled to appear in court on May 14.
