Police dog and Crime Reduction Unit assists Cold Lake RCMP

LAKELAND - One man from Cold Lake and another from Saddle Lake are facing numerous charges after an alleged truck theft and attempted fuel theft that took place in Cold Lake last Thursday.

RCMP issued a statement on Aug. 24 saying that on Aug. 19, members from the Cold RCMP and the Lakeland Crime Reduction Unit responded to a report that two unknown suspects in a black Ford F350 pickup truck were stealing fuel from a business in Cold Lake. Police attended the area and located the black Ford F350 truck which had been left damaged and abandoned a short distance from where the theft had occurred.

The initial investigation showed that the Ford truck had been reported stolen. With assistance from the Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit and St. Paul Police Dog Service (PDS), officers began to track the two suspects who were believed to have fled on foot from the area.

Both involved suspects were subsequently located and arrested after an extensive track by PDS and Cold Lake Detachment Members.

Cody Raymond White, 34, of Cold Lake has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, theft under $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of operating a motor vehicle while prohibited and three counts of failure to comply with release conditions.

White was also wanted by police on an outstanding arrest warrant for unrelated Criminal Code offences.

Blair Jordan Cardinal, 29, of the Saddle Lake Cree Nation is facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and failing to comply with release orders.

Both White and Cardinal were held for a bail hearing where they were both remanded into custody by a Justice of the Peace and are scheduled to appear in Cold Lake Provincial Court via CCTV on Aug. 25.
