A pair of local girls got a once in a lifetime opportunity over the weekend at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Edmonton. Leanne Coté and Anika Kryvenchuk, along with 20 other U10 girls from the Lakeland Soccer Club, accompanied Team Canada onto the pitch at the sold-out Commonwealth Stadium ahead of their opening match against China, before taking in the game at field level.

The Bonnyville Voyageurs high school football team has some big holes to fill on both offense and defense heading into next season. Seven players graduated from the team last season leaving holes at quarterback, running back, receiver and linebacker.

Prior to a local pickleball game session at the Centre Communautaire gymnasium last Monday, Chuck Ouellette, the local pickle-ball coordinator remarked that he had “never seen this many people” show up to play before.

Organizers were initially hoping to see 50 participants come out for the Athletic Alley Iron Horse mini run, a 42 km run from St. Paul to Elk Point that took place this past weekend. That goal was completely shattered.

St. Paul Regional High School once again finished on top of the St. Paul Athletics Association (SPAA) high school track and field championship, hosted at the Regional track last week.

Just a few weeks into the season, the Lac La Biche U18 Lightning Queens girls soccer club already has a gold medal in the bag. The team was in Sherwood Park for a tournament last weekend, where the girls emerged victorious after a lengthy gold medal match against the host team that required nine rounds of penalty kicks to determine a winner.

The Lac La Biche U-12 Girls (in yellow) were hosting St. Paul in league play tonight at the Hervey Marchildon Fields at the KC Grounds. The Lac La Biche girls were on their way to a win late in the game after two goals late in the first half.

A couple of local organizations are hoping to raise some green by hitting the greens at the Lac La Biche Golf and Country Club next month. The Region One Aboriginal Business Association is hosting its second annual golf tournament on June 4, followed by Hope Haven's 23rd annual Lynne Lambert Memorial Golf Tournament on June 13.
