Springbank Rockies head south with title after Plamondon provincials

Eight-team minor hockey provincials wrap up in Plamondon

PLAMONDON - The Springbank Rockies are the U-15 Tier 1 no-body-contact Alberta champions after a four-day championship event hosted by the Plamondon Cougars.

The Rockies beat the TrailsWest Wolves 8-3 in Sunday afternoon's final game of the provincial championships held at the Plamondon Arena. Both teams are from the Calgary area.

The win gave the Rockies the championship banner, and a perfect 5-0 record over the event that began on March 23. The Wolves earned their silver medal finish with a record of three wins, one tie and one loss over the championships.

The weekend of provincial hockey action in Plamondon was hosted by the U15 Plamondon Cougars and the Plamondon Minor Hockey Association. It is the first time the community has hosted a provincial-level minor hockey tournament — making it the best ever, joked organizing committee chairperson Kim Gauthier during the medal presentations on Sunday night.

The Plamondon Cougars, who beat the Boyle Blazers in league championships to earn a spot at the provincials, finished the weekend out of the playoffs with a record of one win, one loss and a tie.
