The Knights of Columbus, together with the St. Paul Regional Santa’s Elves, were working hard last week to prepare 211 Christmas hampers for families who needed some help in putting food on the table and gifts under the tree this year.

Over 225 guests showed up at the Mannawanis Native Friendship Centre last Friday evening for the centre’s annual Christmas free supper event.

The St. Paul and District Ukrainian Dance Club officially has a place to call home, after the club cut the ribbon to open its new dance studio last Friday evening.

The first winter storm of the season walloped the area last Tuesday evening and throughout the day on Wednesday, with reports of snowfall ranging from 10 to 30 centimetres of snow in this northeastern part of the province.

The weather may have been uncooperative last Wednesday, but 350 seniors from St. Paul and surrounding area braved the storm to gather together at the Recreation Centre for the annual Christmas Seniors’ Gala.

Living Water College of the Arts, located near Derwent, recently announced its third summer of classical fine arts programming.

Many community members will not only be ringing in the New Year with family and friends at the third annual New Year’s Eve benefit dance, they will also be supporting two families from the area.

A gift of fabric from the leftovers of Cecile Brochu’s cupboard became a lasting tribute and dedication to the active member of the Mallaig community, in the form of a quilt that was given to her family.

It was a celebration like no other, complete with goats, green hair, and a school-wide synchronized dance to celebrate the smashing of a goal to collect 1,000 lbs. of food for the local food bank.

Dr. Oladipo Odubanjo, the Associated Medical Clinic’s newest family physician, is slowly getting used to the winter weather in St. Paul, after arriving in town from the United Kingdom a month and a half ago.
