Area men arrested for firearms offences

RCMP attended the location and observed a large cache of weapons and ammunition. A further search of the residence led to the seizure of over 40 rifles, shotguns, and handguns.

Buckley George Dyck, 35, of McRae, Alta., has been charged with numerous firearms offences, including possession of a prohibited device, careless storage of firearms as well as one charge of assault causing bodily harm.

Dyck is currently in custody and is scheduled to make his first court appearance in St. Paul Provincial court on May 26.

Elk Point’s business district suffered the first break-and-enter in “quite some time,” last week, Elk Point RCMP Sgt. Barry LaRocque reported.

RCMP received a call around 4 a.m. on May 18 in regards to an alarm at Kelly’s Closet on Main Street, Elk Point. Upon arrival, they found the back door of the store had been pried open and it appeared that multiple suspects had entered the premises, gathering up a quantity of men’s clothing and hats, including jeans, t-shirts, and hoodies in sizes large and extra large, before they fled.

No suspects had been identified by press time.

The public is also asked to be on the alert for any new clothing being offered for sale online or in person, including Buffalo or Silver jeans, Metal Mulisha, Ten Tree or Fox hats, Metal Mulisha, Ten Tree, Red Dragon or Bench hoodies, or Ten Tree, Buffalo, Guess, Fox or Etnies t-shirts.

During the late evening of May 9, the St. Paul RCMP received a report of two suspicious males on the Saddle Lake Cree Nation, possibly in possession of firearms, according to an RCMP media release.

Officers located the two males inside a vehicle. They were arrested without incident, and during search of the vehicle officers located a sawed off shotgun, an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, and a variety of ammunition, as well as drugs.

A 44-year-old man from Fort McMurray, and a 29-year-old man from Saddle Lake are each facing 10 charges related to the possession of prohibited weapons, and possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.

They have both been released from custody.

Tyrone Shirt next court appearance is scheduled for May 26. Rod Castor is schedule to appear in St. Paul Provincial court on June 2.
