The Boscombe community centre is often used for events such a crib tournaments, music events and summer events like the Hillbilly Jam and slo-pitch tournaments, but on Feb. 6, the centre played host to something a little different with its first ever Dinner Theatre.

Terry Shane Murder Mysteries, part of the Edmonton-based Smoking Gun Entertainment, put on the comedy murder mystery, “A Hillbilly Wedding.” After “Pa” found oil on the family property, he sold out for $64 million and the family moved to Boscombe of course where his daughter Lily-Beth met her fiancé, Donovan.

The entire show was setup as a mock wedding, the crowd was addressed as the wedding guests, and the wedding party sat on a long table on the stage. J.T. was the jealous former boyfriend of the bride, who was planning to ask Lily-Beth to marry him right in the middle of her wedding. Later in the show, J.T. was found in the bathroom where he had appeared to hang himself, but many suspected an attempted murder.

As the play went on, the cast continued to address the crowd and even brought up some volunteers for a “Pig Hollerin” contest.

Linda Sallstrom was a main organizer of this event and was very pleased with the positive feedback on the meal and the show.

“We sold out; we reached our capacity of 200 and it was a little tight in the hall as we used round tables for the first time but we were glad to have that good of a turnout for our first Dinner Theatre,” she said.

After a very successful night, Sallstrom gave all the members of the board credit as they all “pulled together and did our part” to make this event happen.

“I also have to thank the community for coming out to this event, we couldn’t have had a better turnout and we’re happy that everyone came out and enjoyed the show.”
