The community of Frog Lake was on the lookout for a nine-year-old missing girl on Wednesday night, but with the child's trusty animal companions by her side, she was found safe and sound the next morning.
On April 27, at 11:14 p.m. the Elk Point RCMP received a complaint that at about 6 p.m., a nine-year-old girl and her three dogs had walked away from her residence on Frog Lake First Nations, according to an RCMP press release.
When the police arrived, members of the community had been searching for the girl already and continued through the night. As the RCMP were preparing for a more intensive ground and air search, the girl walked out of the bush at 7 a.m. the next morning, and was discovered by a community member and taken home.
The girl was taken to the Elk Point Hospital as a precaution but she did not have any injuries, frostbite or hypothermia. When the RCMP spoke to the girl, she said her three dogs laid beside her throughout the night and kept her warm.
In the press release, Elk Point RCMP acknowledged "the unwavering efforts of the Frog Lake First Nations community in searching for the little girl throughout the night."
