Saturday night was one filled with laughter and fun for more than 200 women who gathered at the Ashmont Agriplex for Ashmont Ladies Night Out, with all proceeds from the event going to the Ashmont Moms and Tots group.

“We’ve raised about $6,000,” said Janice Thompson of initial estimates from the night’s event. “Last year was only $4,000, so we did really good this year.”

Attendees enjoyed dinner, prizes, an auction and entertainment. James Trinity, an illusionist/mentalist, performed tricks and raised a few laughs with his self-deprecating performance, while a DJ rounded off the night with a dance.

“We had quite a few performers on the dance floor,” laughed Thompson. “The girls really let loose.”

Rookie Ashmont fire-fighter Jordan Gehring was auctioned off as well, and was sold off as a server to a table for $500, proceeds of which were split between the Ashmont Fire Department and the Ashmont Moms and Tots group.

Attendee and volunteer on the night Kelly Handford notes the kids look forward to the social aspect of the Moms and Tots group, which provides free snacks, crafts, get-together and field trips for area kids.

“They love it, they absolutely love it,” she said of the children using the program.

And while the event may support a good cause, it’s also a fun reason to get together with the same girlfriends each year.

“You don’t see too many of these events too often,” said Handford. “It’s fun to get the whole community involved in it.”
