RCMP charge machete-wielding suspects in Elk Point robbery

Two people have been arrested after an incident in Elk Point where a man threatened a liquor store clerk with a machete. On Jan. 5, at about 9:48 p.m., a female and male entered the K & N Liquor Store in Elk Point.

Two people have been arrested after an incident in Elk Point where a man threatened a liquor store clerk with a machete.

On Jan. 5, at about 9:48 p.m., a female and male entered the K & N Liquor Store in Elk Point. After a few minutes in the store, the male brandished a machete and threatened the clerk to hand over the cash. The male swung the machete at the clerk before stealing a bottle of liquor. The female also stole some liquor while leaving the store. The Elk Point RCMP were dispatched and immediately responded to the scene. The suspects were tracked for approximately 30 minutes within the town of Elk Point and then arrested without incident.

Twenty-one-year-old Jayden Gadwa, of Kehewin, was charged with one count of Robbery and one count of Mischief. Twenty-three-year-old Tanille Night of Kehewin was charged with one count of Robbery and one count of Possession of a Concealed Weapon. Both are remanded in custody for a next court appearance on Jan. 21 in St Paul Provincial Court.

During the early morning hours of Jan. 12, several individuals gained entry to Cardinal’s Cash & Carry on the Goodfish Lake Reserve using a vehicle. The break-in resulted in substantial damage to the building was and the theft of an undisclosed amount of merchandise.

Video surveillance was used on site and the incident remains under police investigation. Anyone with information regarding this offence can be called into the St. Paul RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
