Jamie Sadlowski put on quite a show at the 2015 St. Paul Golf Club Championship on Sunday, even before his hitting show kicked off just after 3 p.m. He did so by setting a new course record with a low gross score of 66, to successfully defend his men’s club championship crown.
Jerrid Pasitney, the manager of the club, said Sadlowski “Put on a really good show,” and that his record-setting score would be even greater if he didn’t “have a few tough breaks.”
Sadlowski jokingly replied, “I can’t putt.”
The two-time world long drive champion was one of about 50 golfers that battled an at times unrelenting rainfall to complete the 18-hole course over the weekend.
The rain did not really bother Dennis Moosewah, the champion in the seniors’ category.
“It was a great experience. You have to play in all different types of weather. The weather doesn’t really matter if you have a love of golf,” said Moosewah.
Sadlowski enjoys participating in the club championship because of his love of the game and the opportunity to tee off with people that he knows.
“I am always on the road, so it’s nice to get a chance to be at home base and play on your home course. The opportunity to play against guys that you know instead of strangers is much wanted nowadays.”
Joining Sadlowski and Moosewah as club champions are Claire Desaulniers in the ladies flight, and Justin Pasitney in the junior flight. Desaulniers also won the ladies’ title in 2014.
Sadlowski Show
Prior to the award presentations, the tournament participants gathered around the first hole tee-off to witness Sadlowski’s hitting show that he has performed at courses across North America, and overseas.
Sadlowski, 27, remarked that Sunday was the first time he has performed this show in his hometown. It was quite an impressive spectacle.
He showed off his tremendous power by blasting the ball down the fairway at far distances using his pitching wedge, his 5-iron, 3-wood, and driver. With his pitching wedge, he managed to get the ball over 180 yards; his five-iron over 260 yards; his 3-wood over 330 yards, and over 365 yards with his driver.
The speed that Sadlowski is able to get on the ball contributes greatly to his success. He says in competition, his peak-ball speed can get up to 215 to 220 mph. Most competitors on the PGA Tour have an average ball speed of 160 mph.
Sadlowski also did some trick shots. He blasted a ball using a putter and got it close to 300 yards. He also used a 1000cc driver (the legal limit being 460) in part of the show. He also managed to rifle balls 300 yards while still in the packaging box. His grand finale was blasting a ball through a watermelon – the ball traveled over 300 yards.
“It is truly amazing to see how far he is able to send a golf ball,” says Pasitney. “He was doing it all day. He was sending the ball farther with his iron than the rest of us did with our drivers. I thank Jamie for doing that because it truly is a treat for people to see that.”
“I have a lot of history with this place obviously by growing up here,” said Sadlowski. “I have been doing these shows full time since 2007. In the past, we have tried to get something scheduled, but it hasn’t worked. But I am happy I can do this to give back to the community.”
Sadlowski performs about 50 hitting shows a year.
