Sept. 17 set aside to build community awareness

This year’s edition of Community Awareness Night promises to be one filled with opportunities and information for people of all ages. As of last week, at least 65 tables of the 80 spaces available had already been booked for the Sept. 17 event.

This year’s edition of Community Awareness Night promises to be one filled with opportunities and information for people of all ages. As of last week, at least 65 tables of the 80 spaces available had already been booked for the Sept. 17 event.

The annual gathering has been held in St. Paul for over four decades. It offers businesses, organizations, and club a venue to put their services on display, take registrations for the upcoming year, and gather interest in whatever it is the group offers.

The night, which runs from 7 to 9 p.m. at the St. Paul Rec. Centre has “a little bit of everything,” according to St. Paul Community Learning Association executive director Stacy Gervais.

For the past few years, Community Learning has been organizing the event at full capacity, a sign that “the town is definitely growing,” and has a lot to offer its residents.

“I know it has grown every year,” says Gervais. The event is free to attend, which also makes it a draw, as it is accessible to everyone, she adds.

Groups that will have tables set up at Community Awareness range from athletic clubs like gymnastics, soccer and karate, to support groups such as palliative care, along with other organizations, such as the St. Paul Farmer’s Market.

Gervais says the event is especially great for newcomers.

“It lets new people in town see what the community has to offer,” she says.

Although organizers were busy taking even more table registrations last week and not much space is available for additional groups to get involved in the event, Gervais still encourages anyone interested in setting up at Community Awareness to contact the association at (780) 614-6346.
